a friend in need is a friend indeed

Due to my entire cell going away to KL for some fun (meaning that my sis & Randee are going too), I was transported to my "in-laws" place to stay (royal degree from the boyfriend) for a few practical reasons...

While I hobbled ard in my one good foot last week, I was really thankful for great friends... I had many kind smses from many people and volunteers bringing food for me! Am I blessed or wad?!

First, my sis popped by with food on some nights... She bought me alot of delicious Korean food and my fav:

BUBBLE TEA...
(Forgot to take photos! Ugh)

And then, Jamie Barbarella Ang dropped by on Fri for our lonely Fri Nite Club.... She brought Subway....

And also my fav... BUBBLE TEA.... (is it such public knowledge that I drink bubble tea everyday?!)

followed by desserts... How can we miss that out?! We'll be incomplete! Chocolate glazed cranberry cake

Randee's mom n pop were really kind to buy food for me and cooked in advance so that all I need is to pop the food into the microwave.... They're really sweet! I always boast abt my nice in-laws! They're easy going and kind... :D

My "brother-in-law" drove over to deliver some spare ribs that his wife prepared for me to reheat and have it with some rice. That was really sweet of them...!!!

Okay now, how a tupperware of spare ribs multiplied into a spread like that is something that's very KARA to do.....

1. Spiced Spare ribs (top left)
-given by Jill

2. Garlicky prawns
- deveined prawns from fridge
- chopped garlic
- chilli padi
- black pepper

3. Spinach with crab meat

- Bag of spinach given by Jill ("sis-in-law")
- crabmeat from the freezer

4. Omelette with mozarella cheese

- large eggs fr the fridge
- leftover Mozarella cheese from aunty's previous pizza-making party

(inspired by cooking programme: Everyday Food, Channel 5, weekdays, 11.30am)

Told ya I was watching ALOT of cooking shows!

TAaaaDAaaa!!!! With abit of creativity, anyone can whip a meal out of stuff from their fridge!!!!!

Randee's reaction: Since when did u sneak out to buy all these ingredients?!!!! *blabbergasted*

HAHAHAHA.......

For entertainment's sake

Was just talking to Randy last night and exclaiming that I suffer from SASD (Short-Attention-Span disease)... As a kid, I can't sit still and pay attention long enough till i start scribbling (trust me, I got into a lot of trouble for scribbling during lectures, all the way up till my polytechnic days)...

So imagine me, with my leg in a cast, hopping ard on one good leg to get food, grab the teevee remote, and plong on the sofa for prolonged hours watching reruns of "America's Funniest Home Video" and cooking programmes & not being able to move beyond the boundaries of the 4-walled flat.... I am TRULY BORED! And when I'm bored, I do crazy things....

So here's my attempt to self-entertain and entertain in the process......
I've learnt a few interesting things this crippling week:

1) Plaster Cast Advice
Here's a standard piece of brochure that's handed out by the nurse tt day, after she educated me on the how-to's of using the crutches... I amused myself over it...

Especially the instructions under the DO NOT:

DO NOT:
- put weight on the injured part. Use crutches as instructed
- remove padding from the cast (Yes, it is not like a bra. U DO NOT remove paddings fr your cast like you're pulling cotton fillings from a stuffed toy...)

- scratch or use sharp objects to scratch when itchy (I'm sure someone must have gotten their letter opener stuck in the cast before, for them to come up with a "DO-NOT" like this!)

- put powder inside the cast as this will cake and casue irritation to the skin (No powder allowed. You are not baking a sponge cake.)

- wet or heat the plaster (no microwaving allowed)

2) Figure skating
I learnt this step-by-step procedure of figure skating while I was attempting to bathe myself. It can be a hurdle as challenging as climbing Mount Everest.

Step 1: take a medium-sized plastic bag to wrap up the leg-in-cast

Step 2: Rest your bagged-leg on the covered toilet seat

Step 3: Shower & soap yourself, taking note to isolate the showering of your body as far away fr the injured leg as possibly can

Step 4: tilt , bend, twist your waist (still balancing on one foot) to make sure all soap & sud is completely rinsed off every nook and crevice...

Step 5: Ta da! You're done!
Now the challenge is to clothe yourself on one standing foot........ *faint*

Those KILLER heels...

I had some exciting agendas planned out for this week:

1) Buy a new handphone - the Nokia E63! (2 buttons fr my Sony Ericsson phone has officially fallen off.. I may no longer be able to adjust my volume louder or lower.. which gave me a perfect excuse to get a new one...)
2) Buy my EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 Camera lens (been thinking abt it for 4 days now...)
3) Go for SPA massage on sun since Randy, my sis & all my beloveds are away in KL for the weekend
4) Pasta Brava with Jamie for our lonely fri-nite-club dinner
5) Youth cell group dinner (haven't done this for a long time since my adult cell grp is on Sat nites)
6) Facilitator for Mr Thong's workshop - was quite excited to help out!
7) Photoshoot for a local band

BUT.....

who knows...... all my plans were dumped when Humpty Dumpty (that is me) had a great fall..... Was on my way to the washroom in my killer heels and i twisted my ankle. I heard a "crack" sound and the next thing I know there were bright stars circling around... Then I felt faint and crawled to the nearest chair....

(By now, I know that it's quite the norm for me to faint... When I cut myself and see blood, I faint. When I have needles prick into me, I faint. 8 yrs ago when I twisted my ankle, I fainted too -> the twisted ankle incident was the one that began me & randy's love story... But i'll save it for a separate occasion to talk abt it...)

Anyways, silly me, checked on the heels, thinking the crack sound came from my broken heel. But the heel was completely intact and the sound was from my feet. -.-

oh shucks....

Seems like my heel is still more hardy than my feet... :P

Well, a good or rather coincidental thing was that Randy happened to be sick and on medical leave... I called him and "THE HERO COMES ALONG" and whisked me off to a clinic... We did not manage to get any carpark lots, and I had to be barefooted as I could no longer fit my fat foot into the heels again. So Mr Chan piggybacked me all the way to the clinic, walking past many strange stares... (I just hid my face behind his shoulder.. haa)

The doc at the clinic says there could be possible fracture and wrote a referral letter for me to go to the A&E to get any X-ray done instead...

Here's the letter he wrote addressing to the "Mothers are Cows"...

But after paying $20 for the bill for him doing nothing at all, I'm guessing the handwriting reads "Minutes Are Cash" instead... Anyways, the nice clinic assistant suggested that we get a pair of cheap slippers...

Mr Hero Chan dropped me off at the hospital, plonged me in a wheelchair and left me under the sun while he finds a parking lot. Sometimes I dunno if I shld laugh or cry at my dear fiance... Hahaahahh... But a nice lady came and wheeled me into the shade.

My 1st time in a wheel chair...
Wheeee....................!!!!!!!! Was having some fun wheeling ard the hospital....
Till my maid for the day rammed my fractured feet into the wall a few times....

While I struggled to the handicap toilet, Mr Hero Chan had some fun on the wheelchair...
I'm scheduled to unwrap the "present" only next week. One week of walking on crutches and immobility. SIGHs....
Well, to look on the hind side, I had the chance to be Queen for a day......!

Walking her home

Looking back, I believe that there was a change in our relationship climate at that moment when I proposed to Kara, when I gathered just a right amount of encourage to say.... "Kara will you marry me".

I did not readily give or invest everything during our courtship days because of a fairly memorable past relationship. And Kara is my 2nd and she is the last of the list. But this has all changed because of the special moment when she said yes to the proposal, which sealed the scar & brought warm to my heart.

Looking forward, I promise that I am gonna walk her through both good & bad times. I promise to be the first to walk her through lousy moments as well as the first through her successful moments. That I will give my best to walk her through the first moment of her each experience in life, as we continue to age together each day. It has been coming to a good 8 years of courtship and I am still enjoying every moment of it...

Thank you for giving me the opportunity my dear! :)

WOW day

Yea, it was really easily on my end. Had only the options of a number of suits for selection as compared to the multitudes of gowns in the Bridal. So what do you think? Of course super easy for me lah because it is either this or that one, nothing really complicated. :P

It was really a tiring day where we spent more than 3 hours at LaBelle's bridal boutique. But it was worth it because I had a glimpse of what a princess look like during the 3 hours affair. As much as I look tired during the process, I want to confess that I really enjoyed the whole bridal fitting session. I enjoyed seeing Kara put on the different outfits. She looked so pretty & so princess-like!

After some hours, the gowns in memory began to merge & look the same....haha! This probably explains why I often have the confused look when Kara ask for comments on the gowns. And Ling zhi made the selection so much easier for Kara with her 5 cents worth of recommendations and big thanks to her so that i can relax relax.

All in all, it was an interesting experience and I am looking forward to our outdoor shoot on the 11th April 09 (Sat). Simply can't wait to see the end product of the bridal pictures.

Counting down to 121 days before our Big day!!! Yay!!!

Selecting wedding gowns & suits

Few days back, we headed down to the bridal boutique to have our gowns & suits selection....
It was quite fun! I had in mind what I wanted to wear and managed to find many pieces which I liked... In fact, too many pieces that I had problems deciding!

when I first look at the racks and racks of gowns, I told our bridal coordinator, Ling Sze, to show me those with LACE and PEARLS... Hahahaha... No sequins and shiny bling blings for me...

A friend sent me this link abt a week or two ago... Check out the expression of the groom!

Although I did not get the same expression from Randy, he was quite "uncle" to ask our bridal coordinator if he can take photos... (I thought that was quite sweet of him to think of something like that...) But she didn't allow... :P

Finally after 2 hrs I shortlisted the following gowns (descriptive info since no phototaking allowed):
gown 1: Really pretty lace and small pearl details
- MY FAV! Loved that the details and the design was near perfect except that the train wasn't dramatic.. Randy didn't like it coz the train looked ordinary...

gown 2: Laced top with silk-material bottom (Long train)
- liked the beautiful train but didn't like the details around the bust area (makes a slim gal look fat)

gown 3: slightly gold-coloured gown with see-thru corsetted waist & puffy skirt
- touted by coordinator as THE gown that will create the "WOW" expression
- very princessy looking but with a vintage feel
- the skirt looked something like this (dun haf exact pic), but PUFFIER and not in this colour

- agree that it's very unique and probably haven't seen any bride wear it before but I dun think it's very me at all... Though the coordinator n Randy both thinks I shld select it...

Eventually, the winner was: *drums roll* Gown 2

This was one of my fav that I've tried previously... Really love it for the chinois factor but definitely can't use it as a wedding gown.. :( If only they had it in other colours, will definitely select it for my evening gown....

You can't imagine how tiring it is to put on and take off such heavy garments! I think i'd probably tried 18 over different dresses...! :P While Randy settled his selection within 5 tries. Hahahaha...

Furnitures-function vs. style

Ikea's having it's annual sale!!! Till this weekend! And Super-Aunty-Me, despite the fact that we're only getting married in July, we've decided to buy our furnitures waaayy ahead!

We won't be able to move in to our new flat anytime soon, at least not within the next 1.5 yrs (only 1 layer of bricks has been built on our block so far).... Hence we're getting the "use-em-for-2-yrs-and-chuck-em-away" kinda furniture.

The place that we're putting up for the next 2 years is dated and very 80's. But I don't mind it at all! In fact, if I could, I would really really like to make it look like the set of "That 70's show"! But Randy-forbid, I can only imagine the "look" in my head... Haaaa......

Anyhows, here's what we bought on our furniture shopping spree:

a sofa BED! Converts to a Queen size bed!
Striking RED Sofa
Totally Retro fabric - Will be tailoring into curtains tt will look cool with the Sofa!

Another 2 fabrics that i liked but didn't fit into the look...

Tabletop lamp - gonna put this beside my bed! FUNKY!
Would like to buy this bead-thingy to hang over the kitchen door! Just for the purpose of using during my wedding day (for photo ops)... which i gotta take it down thereafter...... :(

Excited to have all the items delivered! But gonna assemble everything only in May/June! Ahhh! The anticipation!!!
