Birds' nest & Bangladeshi worker

This week was yet another interesting week.... Besides the lil' par-tay that we had for the Teenz Zone Ldrs.........

Youth Ablaze's Teenz Zone Leaders

and our usual Fri Supper Nite Club, I had coffee with a biz partner whom I worked quite closely with previously... They're a major distributor of New Moon Abalone and he brought me a gift....

A box of New Moon Bird's Nest!!!

It's not that I'm a fan of Bird's Nest... It's just that I find it so thoughtful of him! And he actually selected the "collagen" flavour, knowing that collagen is nothing but goodness for ladies... :P

Being a salesperson himself, he shared that he wld always bring a gift when he meets up with his clients as it's a "chinese" thing to do (to bring gifts for visitations) and it helps foster goodwill with them. I can't agree more... Another art of salesmanship learnt for me!

On Thursday evening, as I was driving to participate in a Focus Group study, I halted behind a lorry filled with Bangladeshi construction workers at the red light. As I yawned and thought about how I was going to last thru the next 3 hours of "interrogation", I noticed some familiar faces on the lorry!!!!!

A few months back, we volunteered to help out at the International Worker's Banquet organised by our church and I was assigned to wait on the table where the guests were workers from nearby construction sites. I saw this one particular familiar face on the lorry that was sitting on our table during the dinner!
Many of the workers have been here for at least 10 years and most of them tell us they're quite happy to be staying in Singapore....
Here's a photo of them dancing to Bangra-music that nite... (Photos stolen off LSBC's Facebook acc)
Another happy guest at the table...
When the music heightened, even the Minister joined in the dancing!!!!

Oh man.... Thinking about that night just absolutely bring joy to me... I love the whole drum beats and swaying your hands-in-the-air... Seeing it "live" that day with so many happy faces was like something outta a Bollywood movie! That night really touched my heart and I know I will remember it for a long time to come............ :)

When we got there, every girl had a look on their face that went "AHHHHH! I found my dream kitchen..."

Mid Wk surprise - Ken's bd

This week went by with plenty of excitement! Yet another eventful week!
1) Ken's Surprise Bd

Wednesday - I got home after work, made some Carbonara pasta for our Wednesday-nite-with-the-Chans guest, Sean Chew, who popped by our Cozy Place to catch up with Randy... The young man is enlisting on 11 Sep!! He's such a sweet chap, he brought us a bag of cookies! :)

Carbonara with prawns and shimeiji mushrooms!

After I was done with the Carbonara, I rushed off to The Sheep Pen to prepare a bd surprise for Mr Thong!
We gathered @ the playground downstairs to discuss how "Operation Donuts" was gonna take place.
Jamie was supposed to be leading Ken to the mall while Addy set up the Donuts.
Plan A: Failed. Jamie appeared with Buddy the dog instead.
Plan B: To bluff Ken tat she lost Buddy so he comes downstairs and we sneak up instead. Rejected. Buddy apparently doesn't get lost easily.
Plan C: Rehearsing the Madagascar-style Birthday Song with silly dance steps at the playground. Very Kara...

Addy appearing with Donuts...

Managed to catch this photo of the Drama king... Hahahaha...

It's a girls' par-tay! Ken is so blessed............. muahahahahah

Happy birthday Mr Thong!!!!!!!!!!!!! (3 weeks more to u-know-what!!! Yay!!!)

Homecooked meal last week

One of the highlights of marriage life was being able to cook and have friends come over often to enjoy some special time with us.... Last Wed, we had Yyn come over and helped finish up our simple Japanese Curry Rice meal........

Main: Japanese Seafood Curry
Appetizer: Edaname Japanese peas
Soup: Yasai Misoshiru
Randy's pretty obssessed with having the Yasai Misoshiru soup... it's usually one of the must-order items when we dine @ Sushi Tei's... We've not been to Sushi Tei's for a while and since I'm officially "THE Wife", I'm tasked to cook it ALL THE TIME...

My fav combi of green tea + azuki red bean!!!!!

On Friday nite, Delia popped by to keep me company while the husband was away in school..... I prepared a new batch of the exact dishes for my dear friend. But, I forgot to take photos! Had a good time chatting with her... It's been a while!!!!!!!!
I woke up this Monday and the first thing I did was to declare a "no Yasai misoshiru soup" week for this week. Yay, finally I can skip cabbage and enoki mushroom from my groceries list!!!!
Menu for this week: Carbonara Linguine with Prawn & shimeiji mushroom!!!
[Current Mode: Domesticated]
