Eleven July 2011

We celebrated our wedding anniversary yesterday on the 11th July. We are officially married for 2 years!

We had wanted to dine french at Au Petit Salut without a reservation (yea yea, laugh out loud... We were silly enough to think that we could get a table by walking in...) We were turned away of coz and decided to head to Pontini for italian instead.

Previously we always have nice romantic dinners on special occasions... As we need to pick the little caterpillar from the nanny's at night (romantic dinners and strollers in restaurants don't associate), this time we changed from our usual and did our celebratory meal over lunch instead.
Which was good coz there were set lunches offered at a cheaper deal...

Bread basket
Kara's 1st course: Spelt Soup
Diddy's 1st course: Mushroom soup
Kara's main: Braised beef with risotto
( Beef was tender & so yumz... Risotto was nice & creamy)
Diddy's main: King prawn pasta
It was a nice quiet lunch we enjoyed before rushing back to work again.......

Kara's dessert: Warm Apple Cake
 (with vanilla bean ice cream)
Pontini wasn't as yummilicious as how I had it previously. :(
But I guess it was the company that mattered... 2 years from our wedding day, we are still as sure as ever that we are each other's for keeps... Though we may disagree, may fight, may be upset... But we will always stay together to work through all the hurdles and stress that may come our way. Give and take - Cha cha style!
Next celebration, I will aim to go for Au Petit Salut, but with a reservation!!!!!

Boo's & Yay's!

Sunday: 18th Oct
We decided to spend a couple-day-out in JB... The previous time we drove in, we were stuck along the road leading to the Malaysian checkpoint for 4 hours enroute home. Imagine taking 4 hours to drive a distance no further than 2 bus stops! Eventually we reached home after midnight, cursed, sweared and promised ourselves never to drive in ever again.

BOO BOO - This sunday, we buckered up enough courage to give the trip across the causeway - ONE LAST CHANCE. So happily we drove in to Johore Bahru's City Square Mall. The JB checkpoint is new now and totally looks like ours.... When we stamped our passport and drove out, we lost our orientation and couldn't quite figure out how to get to City Square! With some rough navigation and some swift turns, we busted the suspension in my left front tyre................ Ugggggghhhhhhhhhhh......... And the tyres started making loud scrapping noises whenever we negotiated a turn. It sounds like we've got a huge pebble stuck in the wheel. Oh man.....!!!! *SOBZ*

The YAY - The happy part was F.O.S. was having a purchase-RM150-&-pay-onlyRM100 promo. Naturally we bought "some" stuff. Hehe... We picked about 5 pcs of apparels each & Randy did a rough calculation (his fav thang to do... bleah...), we're paying S$8 per clothing! Cheap cheap! We rounded up the trip by having dinner @ Kim Gary. Yumz!

Monday :19th Oct
The YAY - Office was shutdown (in lieu for Sat's Deepavali), one relaxing day!
BOO BOO - Called the workshop but they're packed with repair jobs. Tmr's the earliest they could fix my tyre.... My head is jittery with thoughts that my car may explode while I sleep at night. :(

Tuesday: 20th Oct
The YAY -Took urgent leave to fix my car. Car fixed! Yay!
BOO BOO -Pocket burnt... :(

In the midst of all the series of the "Boos & Yays events", one YAY was I've finally got down to design our wedding album... I've been procrastinating and postponing it for a while (3 months to be exact). Our parents have been nagging to see the photos (they do not have a facebook account... haha)... Anyways, determination caught up on me and I've pleased to announce---- I've finished compiling all the best pics of the Wedding Day & have finished the layout! Just gotta print it onto a hard cover album.... Yippeee!!!!

Here's one of the centrespread that I did up:

And another one....

Picking up the photobook in 7 days!!! You're welcomed to bring pizzas & beer to our place to check out the album! Hehehehhehee.........

Prelude to the big day...

We're 2 days away from the BIGGY event of our lives!!!!! We had a round of rehearsals on Sat in church and we had our 2 photographer shot some prelude pics... They're really good @ what they do...!!! I'm so proud of my dear friend Qiren... & Edmund is such a pro... Pls hire them if you're getting married!!! Highly reccommended!!!

Seriously, if not for our friends who have been-there-done-that, who would ever know how to get married thru all the processions?!
Andy (in the backgrd) looks like he's thinking how his turn will be like...
Here's the funny Groom...
who doesn't know how to welcome the bride & got everyone roaring with laughter...

and then the rings... He didn't know how to put them on either...
Addy with a helpful look on her face... (the rings are Ken & Addy's which they've kindly loaned us to rehearse with...)
That's us! Standing along the aisle.....

Just 2 days away!!!!!!!! So exciting!!!!!!!

Our 50s theme........?!

Most of our friends should have received our wedding invitations by now! Pls let us know if the postman took off with yours!

[click on the photo to enlarge the wedding card]

Was juz chattin' with Randy abt how we're going to tahan through 2 major parties in 1 day (church wedding for our friends + dinner banquet for our relatives), and the truth is we have no answers... Hahahaha... But we've seen so many of our other friends done it before, so we have faith (and historical experience) that we would pull through.... YEA YEA...

We would have really loved to invite everyone to our wedding dinner but due to the overwhelming response from our relatives, we couldn't find enuff gaps in the hotel to squeeze more tables in... So sorry, friends-who-din-get-dinner-invites, we still love u ok.................... ;)

Many friends dropped us an sms to say that they're got our card in their mail...! But @ the same time, we got alot of people asking us what's 50s old jazz............... So I shall do a post abt the theme rightaway...
Church wedding theme: 50s old jazz
Can-can skirts... Hats... Gloves.... Belts (worn high-waisted).... Pearls......
For the men: Dated glasses with thick frame, hats, suspenders, bow ties...
Legendary 50s icon like Good Ol' Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin....
and of coz.... Audrey Hepburn...
If you racked your brains and still can't anything in the theme, u might wanna wear MONOTONES (black, white, grey) since the 50s are about black & white movies....... ;)
(Disclaimer: the photos above are just for illustration purposes to answer some of your question marks... You don't neccessarily have to dress the part or go over the top if you really can't find anything in yours/your parents wardrobe......)

Dinner banquet: Old Oriental
Cheong sums... Shawls (for men too, haha)... Fur coats.... Chinese fans....
I was hunting for cheongsums with some of my friends and found them quite hard to find...
Dressing in Gold, Red (and all other auspicious colours) are oriental too!
Anyhows, it's just for the fun of things that we state a theme... So pls still come if you can't find anything to wear that fits the theme!!!!!! We juz wan all our guests to come and enjoy themselves!!!

Caterers

I found this half-written blogpost that i was writing 2 months ago and forgot to post.. Hahaha... Anyways here's some photos we took at Asian civilisation museum... We were invited by Rasel Catering to attend their function there (as well as to taste their food!).......

Randy at the lift door... (the door handles r not real..... it's a giant sticker..)

In due credit, Rasel's food was okay and everything but we weren't ready to make any commitment then....

Then it was pouring buckets and we hung out at the 1st floor and entertained ourselves...

Anyways i've juz issued out a cheque today for another caterer.. Who's more familiar with setting up in our church....
We've started our first batch of cards-distribution last Sat!!! Kudos to Randy for spotting people and giving them out fast.... DHL has certainly taught him a courrier trick or two.... ;)
A few people has been asking me abt my wedding theme... Gonna do a post on wedding themes really soon kay?!!! Keep a lookout for my next post!!!!! :)

Card Matters.......

We're (finally) working on the wedding cards!!! Okay, the entire stack of cards have been sitting in the living room for a while but I've officially lifted my marker and started calligraphy-ing on em'...

Folding cards, cutting gold strings & tying them... It's all so factory-outlet... You have no idea the no. of hours u spend just being a "machine" doing FOLD-INSERT-CUT-TIE.... :P

Then consistency becomes an issue... Especially with TITLES... some card says "Mr & Mrs", some says "Uncle", some just states their name. Randy says nobody compares cards to see the salutation you write, so it's okay... *heheh..*

And when both of u are so tired of being robotic-cardwriting-machines, your human self kicks in and start nitpicking over how long the string should be cut and how your ribbons are nicer than the other person's... Hahahaha...

I was just complaining to our wedding coordinators, Mr & Mrs Chow how my church invite looks different from the original one I designed. The colour was OFF. The printer didn't do a colour matching... Arrggghh... A lil' disappointment there... :(

Anyways, we're so thankful for the both of them... They reminded us of so many nitty gritties that we could have missed out! We almost forgot to register our details with ROM if they've not reminded us... Goodness gracious us...

Cards writing again tonite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(PS: When u receive our wedding cards, know that it's handfolded with love, stamped + licked with delight..! Muhahahaha...!!!)

Makeup Woes

I borrowed Yyn's digicam yesterday as I was going to the bridal shop to try on my 4.5 inch high wedding heels with the gown...

Was afraid that the front of my gown may be a lil short after the extra height... (U see, the previous time I tried it on, I couldn't try it with my actual heels as my feet was still suffering from the "trotter-effects" of my sprain) So today I dropped by juz to try it out accompanied by my Queen-of-all-Bridesmaids - Ezen...

Ezen will be the main gurl helping me out with my gown, touching up of my makeup and the nitty-gritty... I'm so happy coz she's really good at all these!

While looking through the photos of the gown in the cam and thinking how I want it modified, guess what I found? Some pics that sis and I took during my trial makeup at the bridal studio from 2 months back!

My eyes look a lil weird coz... It's the return of the eyelid-stickers!
There's a story behind eyelids stickers... U see, when I was a young kid, I did not have double eye lids. My mum who was a beautician back then, stuck these awkward stickers on my eyes every day, in the hope that I would have BIG eyes and double eyelids like hers... (of coz i wld fidget n peel it off when she's not looking... :P)
Mum and her big eyes...

Some of my friends have even heard of the episode of mum rubbing my head with hard liquor coz I had such little hair when I was a baby. And the nose-bridge pinching every night to make sure I would have a sharp nose.... All the old wife tales........ tsktsktsk...........
(clearly, non of the method works.... Though my mum would like to think otherwise n remind my sis how much the stickers wld haf worked for her if she had listened....... -_- )

Anyhows, for the entire afternoon I felt like I was 5 years old again, waiting for the right moment to peel the sticker off my eyes... and FYI, falsies were not included yet..... I tried on the falsies on a separate occasion and u can bet my last buck that I was EXTREMELY uncomfortable....

See how un-natural my eyelids look?!!?!?

Well, I guess I can only tell myself that I should be thankful I've been trained at a young age to tahan such "vain-pain"!!!!! PUI! hahahaha......

My unconventional wedding

Just had a makan session with our wedding coordinators (Joe & Irene Chow!) and we discussed so much till we ran out of stuff to discuss....! (Actually we were more preoccupied playing with their 2 hyperactive Schnauzers).. :P

Joe & Irene

We covered issues from "how NOT to get your angpows hijacked halfway" to "where and how can I toss my bouquet to single girls".... Every weddings has something unique or unconventional either in the proceedings or the dressing.... Joe aptly pointed out how unconventional my wedding is going to be:

1) The bride will walk down the aisle on her own
- no nervous kids, no bride's father, just me myself and I down that lane...

2) There are no pre-wedding photos of me in my actual gown
- I figured that I'll be stuck in that gown the entire day on 11th July and will be having plenty of pics in it. So why show it beforehand?

- A friend who's getting married 2 weeks after mine hasn't even seen his bride-to-be in her gown. That's how special!!!!!!!!!!!

3) Sleep late on the Actual Day and wake up at 9am
- Okay, maybe 8am since i need an hour to makeup. But it helps that I'm not Teochew and I hope to sleep in as much as possible... (Can there be a lazier bride than me?!)

Maybe it's my perspective about the wedding... I look it at as a birthday-party of sort... Just a happy gathering-together of people I've not met for a long time and people I've known for a while now... It's probably gonna be an event that my guests remember and talk about for at most a week? and probably a month extra for me and Randy. So nuttin to be too sweaty about... Afterwards it's marriage life, baby! ;)
